A Ski Mansion Sets a New Standard for Luxury Real Estate in Utah
In the upscale Deer Valley ski resort, a sprawling mansion with a private gondola has set a new real estate benchmark in Utah, selling for over $50 million. The sale, finalized in November, surpassed the previous state record of $39.6 million, held by another Park City property purchased in 2022.
A Landmark Property
The seven-story, 21,000-square-foot estate sits on 2.6 acres of prime mountain real estate. Built by Doug Bergeron, a financial technology executive and former CEO of VeriFone Systems, the mansion boasts a mix of opulence and outdoor adventure. From its infinity pool with sweeping mountain views to its private gondola that takes you directly to the top of Bald Eagle Mountain, every detail was designed to redefine luxury.
A Gondola Like No Other
One of the home’s standout features is its private ski gondola, a rarity even in the exclusive Deer Valley area. “The replacement value is immeasurable,” said Bergeron, highlighting the extensive planning required to secure approvals for its construction. This gondola, shared with a neighboring property, is accessed through a motion-activated door in the mansion’s ski room, blending convenience with innovation.
World-Class Amenities
Bergeron spared no expense in creating a space that appeals to high-net-worth individuals. The mansion includes seven bedrooms and an array of amenities, such as:
- A spa complete with a steam room and sauna.
- A rock-climbing wall and a basketball court.
- A bowling alley and a golf simulator.
Bergeron emphasized that the ultra-wealthy seek properties offering unmatched privacy and perfection. “For this segment of buyers, pricing is elastic as long as their standards are met,” he explained.
Seven Years in the Making
Bergeron purchased the land in 2016 for $3 million and spent seven years meticulously building the estate. The property hit the market in September for $65 million and quickly attracted multiple interested parties, going under contract within a week.
An Investment in Excellence
Paul Benson of Engel & Völkers Park City, the listing agent, declined to disclose the buyer’s identity but shared that they hail from the East Coast and already own property nearby. Suzanne Harris of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Utah Properties represented the buyer.
As Utah’s luxury market continues to grow, this record-breaking sale underscores the demand for extraordinary homes that combine natural beauty with unmatched luxury.
